Possibly the best photography gallery in Portland, The Blue Sky Gallery also know as the Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts is always bringing it. Photographers Susan S. Bank and Andy Freeberg treated Portland’s first Thursday community to a impressive selection of their amazing work.

Andy Freeberg’s photography showcases people and art from Russia capturing a particularly unique phenomenon – Guardians. This is an exhibition documenting the women of Russia who spend their days watching over the great works of art in Russian Museums. Quoting Freeberg “the presence of the women becomes an inherent part of viewing the artwork itself.” Incredible juxtaposition.

The exhibit by Susan S. Bank tells stories of modern Cuba and the time warp the country exists in while under a 40 plus year U.S. embargo. Cuba: Adentro Campo - is a study of the people and places in the rural barrios of Cuba. Documented over the course of five years, the photography reaches the essences and soul of the campesinos (tobacco farmers) and their families. Simply rich B+W photography.

Both exhibits run the through March, displayed big and beautifully in Blue Sky Gallery space. Go down and experience some great story telling in the photographic medium.
