MIXOGRAFIA

Ed Rushca
There is a great exhibition at the Portland Art Museum running till April 26. Titled Mixografia, the show consists of prints that are more than just prints – they are the results of innovations in the process creating dimensional surfaces of detail, space and form. Simply put, the prints are built of layers upon layers. Starting in Mexico City circa1968 by Luis and Lea Remba - Mixografia is formally a collaborative workshop to explore the printing process and detail obtained through relief.
Using a variety of techniques from intaglio, silk-screening and linocut to build and explore dimension through non-traditional and traditional printing process. Collaborations with artists like John Baldessari, Kiki Smith, Rufino Tamayo, Helen Frankethaler and Ed Rushca have produced results, which are super cool, informative and compelling all while reflecting each artist’s own style.
So grab a few moments and take in some cool prints at the Art Museum, there is a bunch of amazing work to inspire your creative side!
