Fashion!

People are talking about the green little, hip, metropolis we Portlanders call home. We’re all about our community, supporting local industries and doing our best to be nice to the environment. So it makes sense that our fashion week is the only fashion week in the US completely devoted to sustainability, both in the designers it supports and the production itself. Portland Fashion Week also uplifts indie designers by making it affordable for them to show their work, which makes for a nice little hometown take on what can sometimes be a big-timer industry.
The sixth annual PFW ran from October 8-12 and was hosted at the Portland Design Center in the 14 Square building in the Pearl District. More than 20 designers previewed their Spring/Summer 09 collections in five days of fashion, fun and frivolity. Sidlab salon styled out the models with looks from elegant to edge. Thanks to Eric Alan Nelson of Sidlab for friending us out and letting us get a sneak peek at the styles backstage. It was a good time to get out into the community and of course, to see what everyone was wearing! More than the runway models were bringing the heat to the street.
The event kicked off every night with pre-party cocktails and after parties ensued after the runway was a wrap. Revivall clothing and Strung Out swimwear brought panache and sassy attitudes to the stage, while Bon’ Lou created sophisticated and sweet couture, to name a few favorites. The future looks bright for a little Cinco/Portland fashion/hair design collaboration. Proceeds went to support the Children’s Cancer Association.
